Jerry Sullivan has practiced structural
engineering since 1972, and became a registered professional engineer
in The State of Florida in 1980. He worked for a truss plate manufacturer
where he designed and tested wood trusses. He also worked for several
wood truss manufacturers, where he supervised engineering departments
and wrote various computer programs for the design of wood trusses.
In 1982 he started Sullivan & Associates, a structural engineering
company specializing in wood trusses. He served as the Chairman of
the Structural Committee of the Board of Rules and Appeals of Broward
County. During this time he headed up the effort to revise Broward
County’s Building Code in light of Hurricane Andrew, producing
the 1994 Broward Edition of the South Florida Building Code; which
encompassed many new innovations regarding the design of structures
for hurricane force winds. He also served as the Chairman of the Broward
County Board of Rules and Appeals and at present still serves on its
structural committee. Mr. Sullivan
has also served as a volunteer as a structural engineer on the Dade
County FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Team and also served as a structural
engineer on an emergency support team.
He has vast experience in structural engineering
and in particular wood truss engineering. He has performed consulting
services for truss plate manufacturers and many wood truss manufacturers;
and has been called on as an expert witness concerning wood trusses
numerous times.
